Cannot send or receive text messages (TNZ CDMA)
From New Zealand Connections
Introduction
Text messaging (SMS) is a means where you can send a short 160 character length message to another mobile. You can also receive text messages in a similar fashion.
Reasons
There are usually several reasons why text messages won't send these are:
- Coverage
- Valid number
- Signatures
- Credit (prepaid only)
- Restarting handset.
Steps
- Coverage is by far the easiest to check. Look at your phones display, in the top left or right there should be a signal meter. If there are no bars - you will probably have issues.
- Try making a voice call to confirm that your phone is connected to the network.
- Valid number - if you are sending to an invalid number, you may experience issues sending the message. Make sure the number is valid, if in doubt try sending to another mobile number.
- Signatures - some phones support signatures which append a message to the end of your message. Sometimes these can force the messages to be over 160 characters which can cause issues. Check to see if this isn't the case.
- Credit - having no credit can be a show-stopper. Make sure you have credit by calling *333 on your mobile.
- Restarting handset - remove battery for 30 seconds and boot up again.
At this point, if it is still not working, you will need to call Telecom. Call *123 from your mobile.
