These are for Xtra Email (@xtra) settings.

In this tutorial, foobar is replaced with your Xtra username.

e.g. if your primary email address is foobar@xtra.co.nz, then your username would be foobar

Step by step instructions

  • Open Evolution and go to Edit, Preferences, and find your Xtra account from the 'Mail Accounts' tab.
  • Click Edit.

The 'Identify' tab is basically all clean sailing.

On the receiving tab, change the following:

  • Server Type: POP
  • Server: pop3.xtra.co.nz
  • Username: foobar
  • Use Secure Connection: SSL Encryption
  • Under Authentication Type select Password and tick 'Remember Password'.

On the Receiving Options tab, no changes are necessary

On The Sending Email tab change the following:

  • Server Type: SMTP
  • Server: send.xtra.co.nz:465 (Thats the tricky bit)
  • Tick 'Server requires authentication'
  • Use Secure Connection: SSL encryption
  • Authentication type: PLAIN
  • Username: foobar
  • And tick 'Remember password'.
  • Click OK, and that's it.

You'll be prompted for your password when it first sends and receives email. Other than that you are all good to go.
